Nadiem's Fate to Be Decided in Laptop Scandal Case Next Week
The fate of former Education Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim, who is accused of corruption in the procurement of laptops for a digital education program between 2019 and 2022, will be decided by a single judge at the Jakarta South City Court next Monday.
PN Jakarta Selatan I Ketut Darpawan has announced that he will read out the pre-trial decision on October 13, 2025, which marks the final stage in the trial of Nadiem.
The decision will determine the outcome of Nadiem's case, which has been ongoing since May 2023. The court's verdict is expected to be delivered on Monday at 1 pm local time.
In a statement on Friday, the judge said that he would reveal the pre-trial decision in his chamber. Hakim Ketut Darpawan stated, "Kami akan menjatuhkan putusan di hari Senin pukul 1 siang."
Advocate Hotman Paris Hutapea, who represents Nadiem, had previously argued that there was no evidence to prove the former minister's involvement in corruption. He pointed out that an audit conducted by the Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan (BPK) found that the procurement process was normal and did not result in any losses for the state.
"This is like a case of murder where the victim is still alive," Hotman said during the hearing on Friday, referring to the alleged corruption case. "The defendant has been accused of causing harm to the state, but no harm has occurred."
However, the prosecution, led by Jaksa Roy Riady, argued that they had sufficient evidence to prove Nadiem's involvement in the scandal. They presented four key pieces of evidence, including witness testimony and expert opinions.
"Nadiaim has not been proven guilty," Hotman said. "We have shown that there is no evidence of any wrongdoing on his part."
