Jakarta's MRT Services Almost Complete, But Will Prices Follow?
The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has announced that the city's transportation services are almost fully connected, with a connectivity rate of 91.8% among various modes of transport, including MRT, LRT, Jaklingko, and TransJakarta.
According to Syafirn, the current cakupan layanan (service coverage) is already at 91.8%, meaning that about 91.8% of Jakarta's population has access to public transportation services. However, despite the improvement in connectivity, there are no plans to increase prices for MRT and LRT.
Syafrin explained that the agency has conducted a thorough analysis, including the willingness to pay and ability to pay of its users, which shows that the current tariffs for MRT and LRT are still within an acceptable range. He cited the example of MRT's tariff in 2023, which was Rp 13,000, compared to the current tariff of Rp 7,000.
The agency also reported that the total subsidy for MRT and LRT users in 2024 was around Rp 6,000 per user, indicating that prices have not increased. Syafirn emphasized that there are no plans to increase tariffs for MRT and LRT services, despite the improving connectivity rate.
