KPK Welcomes Court Ruling in Taspen Corruption Case, Aligns with Anti-Corruption Efforts
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has expressed its approval of the recent court ruling in the case of corruption involving the investment company PT Taspen, which resulted in a loss of over Rp1 trillion to the state.
"This verdict is consistent with KPK's anti-corruption efforts, which aim not only to deter offenders but also to recover losses suffered by the state," said KPK Spokesman Budi Prasetyo in a written statement on Tuesday (7/10).
KPK welcomed the court's consideration of the impact of fictitious investments at PT Taspen on the Tabungan Hari Tua (THT) program, which is funded by contributions from 4.8 million civil servants.
"The severity of the losses suffered by the state highlights the need for stricter law enforcement and prevention measures to prevent similar practices in the future," Budi emphasized.
In its ruling, the court sentenced Antonius Nicholas Stephanus Kosasih, former director of PT Taspen, to 10 years in prison and fined Rp500 million. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of US$127.057, among other currencies, as a form of compensation for the losses incurred.
Additionally, the court found Ekiawan Heri Primaryanto, former director of PT Insight Investment Management, guilty and sentenced him to 9 years in prison and fined Rp500 million. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of US$253.664.
Furthermore, the court ordered the confiscation of 996,694,959.5143 units of investment shares, which will be used to recover losses suffered by the state.
KPK has also named PT IIM as a suspect in this case, Budi added.
The verdict was delivered by judges Purwanto S. Abdullah, Sunoto, and Mulyono Dwi Purwanto, with Panitera Pengganti Prastiwi Ari Yuniati presiding over the trial. The court's ruling is seen as a significant step towards recovering losses suffered by the state and upholding transparency in financial dealings.
