"Kementerian Haji Unveils Traditional Sarung Lengkap as 'PSL'"
In a bid to promote Indonesian culture and heritage, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has introduced a traditional garment called "Pakaian Sarung Lengkap" (PSL), which is worn by officials every Thursday. The PSL outfit consists of a long-sleeved shirt, a jas, a dosi kupu-kupu, and a sarung, all designed to evoke the spirit of Indonesian independence.
Wakil Menteri Haji dan Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, explained that the PSL outfit is inspired by the traditional clothing worn by Indonesian national heroes during the colonial era. He cited examples such as HOS Tjokroaminoto and Agus Salim, who were known for their bravery in fighting against colonizers.
The PSL outfit is not just a fashion statement but also carries symbolic meaning. The jas and dosi kupu-kupu represent resistance against accusations of being inferior or uneducated during the colonial era. By wearing these traditional garments, the officials aim to show that they are modern, educated, and equal to their European counterparts.
The sarung, on the other hand, represents Indonesian culture and Islamic identity. Dahnil explained that the outfit is not just a dress code but also an expression of national pride and cultural heritage.
Every Thursday, officials at the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah wear the PSL outfit as part of their official attire. The idea behind this initiative was conceived by Menteri Haji dan Umrah Gus Irfan Yusuf and Dahnil himself.
