Riots Break Out in Jakarta's Tanah Abang Area, Two People Injured in Gunfire
A chaotic scene unfolded in Jalan Jati Baru Raya, Tanah Abang, Jakarta Pusat, on Wednesday night (October 8th) at around 00:30 WIB. A group of armed individuals attacked a coffee shop (warkop), leaving two people injured and causing widespread panic.
The incident was captured on camera by a CCTV and has since gone viral on social media platforms, including Instagram account @jakartapusat.info. The video shows one of the perpetrators firing an airsoft gun at the warkop patrons.
According to Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro, head of Metro Jakarta Police, around 15 motorcyclists were involved in the incident, carrying samurai swords and airsoft guns. The group arrived at the warkop suddenly and began attacking customers and the owner, making off with approximately Rp2 million in cash from a table.
Susatyo confirmed that two people sustained injuries during the incident but has yet to clarify whether these were gunshots or not.
The police are currently investigating the matter and tracking down the perpetrators. Several pieces of evidence have been collected, including CCTV footage and one bullet fragment believed to come from the airsoft gun used by the attackers.
