China's Typhoon Maysak: A Harsh Reminder of Climate Change Consequences China's south has faced a devastating reckoning in the wake of Typhoon Maysak, which has left a trail of destruction and loss of life.

The death toll has soared to 159, with some areas still reeling from historically rare heavy rainfall in early July.

The impact was particularly severe in Guangxi province, where Nanning, the provincial capital, was one of the hardest hit cities. Nearly 90 towns were affected, and 136 lives were lost.
