Xi Jinping Purges Top Generals from China's Military Command

Xi's Purge: A Sign of Weakness or Strength? The removals of two top generals, Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli, from China's supreme military command body have sparked questions about President Xi Jinping's grip on power.

The officials, members of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and key advisors to Xi, were among a batch of high ranking military officers removed from their positions last week.

The purge comes at a time when Xi has been emphasizing the need to root out corruption within the military. His anti corruption campaign, launched in 2012, has already claimed many senior officials as victims.
